Consultation paper on Park Home Commission Rate At last the DCLG has issued the summary of responses on the Consultation on Park Home Commission Rate. It is available for download as a pdf or word file from their website here.
The government decision is that they will not alter the maximum rate of commission, presently at 10%, but will take steps to improve the transparency of the commission payment so that residents will be aware of this charge as soon as they decide to buy a mobile home, whether from a park owner or an existing resident.
We are disappointed that after IPHAS and NAPHR had campaigned for over eight years against the right of park owners to take 10% of your assets, the end result is 'no change'. We have always said that the commission is an unearned bonus for the park owners but they have claimed that it is a significant part of their income and removing it would affect their expenditure on park improvements. We have pointed out that any expenditure on park improvements is recovered from residents through an increase in pitch fee.
The arguments for and against commission are summarised in the document which also describes the government proposals for transparency. We will give more information in the next 'Advisor' and on the Members' Portal. If you have any comments, please email Mark Coram at MarkCoram@communities.gsi.gov.uk
